Gunbower Estate: Education Outdoors

In December 2023, ¿´Æ¬¿ñÈË Anglican Grammar acquired Gunbower Estate, an 84-acre property designed to support real-world, experiential learning for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Generously made possible through the support of the G&A Kent Charitable Trust, this acquisition marked a significant milestone in our School’s journey and an exciting chapter for current and future students.

Originally held by the same family for nearly a century, Gunbower Estate holds deep historical significance to the region. Now, it is being thoughtfully reimagined as a dynamic learning environment that supports each student’s holistic education journey through nurturing academic curiosity, social connection, emotional growth and a strong sense of self.  Gunbower Estate extends learning beyond the traditional classroom, offering immersive outdoor experiences that build life skills, strengthen wellbeing, and deepen students’ connection to nature, local history and Indigenous cultures. It provides students with hands-on opportunities to grow in confidence, resilience and respect for self, others and the environment.

Throughout 2024 and 2025, various student groups have visited Gunbower estate for excursions and curriculum-integrated activities. During 2025 Year 8 Out and About students, and Year 9 and 10 Physical Activity and Sports Studies students have participated in overnight camps that included canoeing, bike riding, camp cooking, tenting and exploring the historic homestead. Year 6 Peer Support leaders also engaged in leadership and team-building experiences on site, and other year levels have enjoyed various activities including bush art by the Gunbower Creek.

The Executives and the Board of Directors are currently developing a Master Plan to guide future investment in Gunbower Estate. Plans include the installation of a High Ropes Course, student accommodation and amenities to support the expansion of real-world, cross-disciplinary learning opportunities. These developments will complement a broad, inclusive and future-focused curriculum that enriches student learning, wellbeing and personal growth.

Gunbower Estate represents an exciting step forward for our school community and we look forward to continuing this journey in partnership with our families. Discover more about Gunbower Estate and other developments in our 2024 & Beyond booklet below.
